Printing ink in and on packaging is a recycling challenge. For many applications, however, this problem can be easily solved. With industrial laser printing processes, simple packaging layouts can be produced quickly and without the use of ink. Combined with films based on recyclable polymers, this creates fully recyclable flexible packaging.
To ensure that such sustainable packaging can also be sent for high-quality recycling, five industry key players have now combined this approach with R-Cycle for the first time as part of a pilot project.
All recycling-relevant information is recorded in a digital product passport during production and can be accessed via a QR code that is also laser-printed on the packaging.
